No New Year Celebration tonight PDF Print E-mail
Dubai Entertainment
Wednesday, 31 December 2008

That is after Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has ordered the cancellation of all forms of celebrations to mark the new year here.

No new year celebration in Dubai

According to the Arabian Business report yesterday,  the order came as a sign of support and sympathy, "a token of solidarity with the Palestinian people in general and Gaza Strip in particular which is currently under the barrage of Israeli's military fire."

Major hotels and world-class attractions like Atlantis, Burj Al Arab, Madinat Jumeirah and others, which normally celebrate New Year's eve with a bang, will have to reserve their props until the next 365 days. Also in doubt is the New Year's concert celebration of Shakira in Abu Dhabi. Gulfnews already confirmed Sheikh's order to cancel all hotel celebrations.

We actully are planning to roam around the city tonight to witness different fireworks display in the Festival City, The Creek or even at the Burj. Wala na ngang Pasko, wala ding New Year....

* Thank you Kenji for giving me an opportunity to contribute in the first Pinoy Expats Blog Awards.

Pinoy Expats Blog Awards

Tonight will be the announcement of the winners - the best and inspiring Filipino blogs around the globe.  Each region, Middle East, US and Canada, Europe, Asia and the Pacific will have a winner for the "No. 1 Pinoy Expats Blog." Basically PEBA recognizes the effort of Pinoy Bloggers to bridge through personal, local or global issues where they can share their ideas, talents or recommend solutions and impart inspirations.

I had plans to nominate this blog but has not kept an eye on it. And one day, about 10 days before the Awards, Kenji - the brain behind the project spotted his logo on this blog. He contacted me, but unfortunately the selection of the finalists is over. The good news is, he's got some space for me to somehow be part of PEBA.

I helped him design award badges (like the one above) which is part of the reward for the winners to put into their blogs.

Congrats Kenji for such endeavor. To the judges, more power to you! To the nominees - you are all winners. The fact alone that you take effort to write and share to the world a slice of your talent deserves an award. Congratulations to the winners. Please support Pinoy Expats Blog Awards.

Surviving A Blog PDF Print E-mail

When rumors spread about a country franchise of Survivor, we're undecided to get the domain - after our first blogging attempt flopped (www.PinoyIdol2008.com). When GMA confirmed the news, we knocked survivorphilippines.com down. The goal is very simple and straightforward - to jump into the blogosphere with something that people would crave for info - with a niche. Apparently, we're fans of Survivor too. We're not actually fans of TV, only worthwhile ones.

Lusot sa Pinas, Huli sa Dubai! PDF Print E-mail
People in Dubai
Saturday, 20 December 2008

So Led Zep Tuyay, the guitarist of Kamikazee, admitted the drugs found on his luggage. He reasoned out though he forgot it was on his luggage, and that he has no intentions to use it in Dubai.  He further stressed that he only use the drug in Manila. [related article]

This is another slap in the face for NAIA, for our country. How come the marijuana, weighing 0.21 grams and 0.66 grams, escaped the scanners and bare hands of Manila authorities? Shame! That lapse lead to bigger shame - that our facilities cannot work its full function, or that we are tolerable to such cases.

Laos na sa Pinas, sumikat pa dito...

Majority of those who write about this are, well, who else, Pinoy journalists here. They're creating a buzz while compromising their own land's reputation. Oh well, I hope Led Zeppelin Tuyay won't be able to escape on the verdict. Shame on those who seek the immediate assistance of the Philippine Embassy to extend support for the accused. There are lots more of 'immediate' matters that our government officials need to work to. There are more deserving cases the government need to resolved.
