Pride at its simplest.... the Radio Show PDF Print E-mail
Dubai Entertainment
Wednesday, 03 June 2009
Here in dubai fm is often the better entertainment outlet of majority of people, rather than tv. I often listen to my favorite radio station on the road on my way to office and back at night. I would say I like The Big Drive Home and The Evening Show.

It's really fun to hear a compatriot calling the station - Channel 4 104.8 that is - greeting "All the Filipino listeners" or dedicating a song for "all the Filipino listeners out there."

That is something I regularly listen to every night on The Evening Show with DJ Moe.  The show is an all-request and dedication. The wacky Moe gets to take callers (mostly on their way home, jammed in traffic), have some cool chit chats and ask for their song requests and who they want to dedicate the song to.

I don't hear British dedicating "to all the British listeners". I don't hear Indians doing the same.  They, most likely dedicate it to friends and loved ones or to "all listeners" - not being specific. I neither hear Arabs "dedicating to all Arabs" (Yalla Habibi), nor Chinese, nor Americans, nor Africans and not just anybody else, but us Filipinos.

It's funny but in a way it's sweet that we at any situations, anywhere, never forget our roots. And if there's an opportunity to shout to the world - we do. The nationalistic pride is really within each of us - regardless how pissed off we may be with what the clowns are doing in our government. Even if in some instances on the radio show, I can't help but laugh out because some Kabayans suddenly becomes witty while talkng to Moe. Even a 30-seconder airtime can become crazy. Some Filipino callers even speaks Tagalog on air. I'm amused to hear DJ Moe also responds Mabuti, if a caller asked Kumusta.  Some would even speak more Tagalog - trying somehow to impart our language with the DJ.

Keep it up kabayans. DJ Moe, you're awesome… keep it up.

June is News Recycling Month PDF Print E-mail
Philippines Connect
Tuesday, 02 June 2009
Every year, in this month, we always see and hear the same news about the issues before the school re-opens. It sounds like a recorded-tape already. We don't seem to get news that hey, something has improved... or at least some other focus during the Opening of Classes.

I like giving taglines... PDF Print E-mail
Recreation & Sports
Sunday, 31 May 2009

FORAC has a mini-contest to provide the best tag line for the organization. FORAC, which stands for Filipino Off Road Auto Club, is not just an exclusive club for 4x4 car drivers but an open organization for Filipinos here in the UAE who loves travel and adventure. Majority of the activities of the group also involves charities here and in the Philippines. For more info just visit their website.

So I came up with the following suggestions...

(1) We guide/assist you in any kind of roads....
(2) Your hand on and off the roads...
(3) We lead the way on and off the roads...
(4) We don't just drive...
(5) (Pinoy) Pride while we drive...

Just for Fun:
FORAC... Ang drive na may arrive!

The contest' deadline was last Thursday and I just saw the post today. I don't know if I will be considered, or maybe there's a better and more appropriate slogan than my ideas... ;-) Regardless if one will be chosen from me, FORAC really is about the 5.

Airbus A380 miniature reminds my obsession to aircrafts PDF Print E-mail
Tech & Gadgets
Friday, 29 May 2009

Me and Raqz were shopping at eMax last night and we saw a miniature of Airbus A380 on sale. For only 24.90 I can buy that meter-length toy. That moment reminded me of my obsession to planes when I was a kid. I always want to go out to see the landing air plane during my childhood in Mindoro. And then I will look at the ATO magazines at home (My dad works at Air Transpo then) and gets amazed with those huge flying objects. During weekends my dad takes us to the airport in San Jose and since there's no flights, we make the ATO tower and the runway our playground.

Hay, now I know what I want to collect. I suddenly become curious of what else aircrafts can I find here. Problem is, the toy's too big. Where will I put it in our room?

Picture tomorrow.

Pan Arab Web Awards at Burj Al Arab PDF Print E-mail
People in Dubai
Tuesday, 28 April 2009

April 25, 2009 - Thanks to our office for inviting us to witness the Pan Arab Web Awards Ceremonies. It was held at no less, the Burj Al Arab. So which shall I blog about, PAWA or Burj Al Arab? hehe CLICK HERE FOR MORE PHOTOS

Pan Arab Web Awards

PAWA is www.panarabwebawards.org. Our company bagged 2 major awards of the night. Best Strategic Entertainment Portal and the Best Website Built on Microsoft Technology. Congrats to the group, especially Homam who steered most, if not all, of the winning site.

Visit PAWA website for the list of winners and for their official Press Release about the Ceremony.

As for the Burj, well, it wouldn't be the onlye 7-star hotel in the world if it ain't fabulous. I don't know how to best describe. It reflects a preserved culture engineered by modern time - a Dubai icon indeed. Everywhere I turn my eyes is gold. This is the shining shrimmering we read in the fairy tales. Also good to see some kabayans working in there.

We're just able and 'allowed' to roam the ground floor, lobby and the beach side though.

It just feels good to experience. Not my best but, still that was a fantastic night!
